Collection: Emma Chlumecky
As a magical realist, Emma Chlumecky focuses heavily on the narrative structures within her practice, while giving the viewer all the clues. She graduated from University of Windsor with her BFA and is based in Windsor. She has received the Award of excellence for her work. As an expressionist, she interprets her work to be projections of her own existentialism and alternating reality combined between real and fantasy.
Chlumecky specializes in oil painting and fiber arts, occasionally combining these techniques into one approach. Inspired by the technical approaches of Impressionism, her work is situated at the intersections of painting, textiles, and photography. Her vision is a heartfelt attempt to invoke reflections on the innate ability to see beauty in the absurd, particularly the precarity of time and place.
Her creative practice delves into the intricate nuances imbedded within the journey of life. She is inspired by feelings of nostalgia and her innocence. Emma captures the wild and uncertain patterns of youth. She immortalizes passing moments as she blends both the longing for the past and present. Chlumecky often aspires to preserve memories of those who journey throughout her life. In her work, she narrates a sense of individuality by emphasizing the aspects that inform her own subjectivity. She continues to affirm life and death, while motivated by the complex dynamic between human existence and the world in which we find ourselves in.
