More About the Artist:
Neltje is a self-taught painter working primarily with acrylic on panel. Her practice is rooted in the architecture of real places such as Montreal apartments, neighbourhood streets, and familiar urban landmarks that she reimagines through colour, memory, and shifting perspective. By blending observation with abstraction, her work explores how we perceive and archive space and how built environments carry personal and collective meaning.
Drawing on a background in design with a BFA in Design (2025) from Concordia University, she uses compositional structure and atmospheric light to construct immersive environments that sit between documentation and recollection. Her paintings are both personal archive and shared reflection, inviting viewers to consider the emotional resonance of place.
Based in Montreal, she has participated in numerous student and group exhibitions and completed a residency exhibition at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. She recently participated in the Toronto Outdoor Art Fair, where she was awarded the United Contemporary Award.
